Our History
Inaugurated on 21.03.1981.
Initially the Society concentrated on assisting the farming community in the village. (This aspect is now looked after by the Ariyalai Farmers Organization)
Focus changed since 1998.
1. Industrial training given to Heads of Female Headed households (about 40) in manufacture of coir products with technical support from the Industrial Development Board.
2. Unemployed female youth were trained in Home Economics and Home Management. The Youth Services Council provided financial and teaching assistance 40 benefited.
3. The Society simultaneously decided to educate and enlighten school going children by celebrating international days. This activity is undertaken every year.
· International Women’s Day.
· World Environment Day.
· International Elders’ Day.
4. Introduction of the Grade 5 Scholarship Scheme Children are coached in Grade 5 to help them qualify for subsequent govt. assistance. In 2010, 12 students have been included in this Scheme.
2008 – Year of Further Focus.
April – 2008.
Introduction of Grade 10 - 13 - a four year Scholarship Scheme with 09 students.
Note: Financial support for this Scheme was sought from our well wishers both in Sri Lanka and outside Sri Lanka. The response is excellent.
This Scholarship Scheme has gained momentum See Current Activities.
September – 2008
Vocational training offered for educated unemployed youth. The 1st training course commenced on 01/09/2008 on “aluminum fabrication”. Followed by training on “electrical installation and plumbing”.
25 trainees selected for each course. The training session lasted till July 2009.
